The Red Sox finally got their man. Pending a physical, the Red Sox have reached a deal to sign free agent, Keith Foulke to a reported 3 year, 21 million dollar deal. He may have his physical as soon as Saturday and the Red Sox will announce the agreement thereafter. The Red Sox had to weather a strong fight from the Oakland Athletics who Foulke played with last year and had a breakout year. They looked to resign the right-handed closer but he chose Boston's package over Oaklands. The Red
sox who have been looking for a closer for the past half year have appeared to finally get what they are looking for. "We're not pursuing Keith because he's a closer," Epstein said. "We're pursuing him because he's one of the best pitchers in the game."

Arod On Hold...
The big news of the past several weeks was that concerning the Texas Rangers and the Boston Red Sox. The two teams would swap 20+ million dollar players, with the Red Sox landing Arod and shipping Manny Ramirez to Texas. However, money is the biggest problem which is splitting the two sides. Both sides have agreed to work on other things over the winter meetings, and put the multi million dollar deal on the back burner for now. "The owners are still talking and talking to everybody involved, but they don't have anything
Arod could become part of the biggest trade in history if him and Manny Ramirez swap squads for  the 2004 season and beyond.
completed yet," Scott Boras, Rodriguez's agent said late Friday night. "I only know that they're talking. I can't characterize it in any way." Talks may resume after the weekend meetings. The Red Sox are also looking into negotiating a new contract with current shortstop, Nomar Garciaparra. Garciaparra turned down the Red Sox four-year offer during Spring Training and another one after the American League Championship Series, but Henry told reporters earlier this week that Arn Tellem, Garciaparra's agent, didn't find the offers sufficient. That is one of the biggest reasons the Red Sox began to show interest and pursue Rodriguez. If the Sox can reach a contract entension with Garciaparra, the Arod deal will probably be wiped out and if it can not be worked out, Nomar will most likely hit the trade market if Boston gets Arod.
